Kitting and Assembly Projects are second nature to our staff.
Kitting and assembly are where our Fulfillment Department really shines. We say that because we have taken on projects others have shied away from. In one instance, a client had a project with 146 possible kit variants not to mention 200 different marketing pieces that could be included in the kits.
When a request came in using the ordering mechanism we established for this project, we were responsible for ensuring that all of the correct components were included in each kit variant ordered. As it turned out, the program was so successful that instead of lasting only a year as originally planned, it ran for almost 5 years. It's now 10 years later and we're still handling the program, though on a much smaller scale than when it was first introduced.
We have also done kitting and assembly projects for retailers like Walmart. In Walmarts case they needed someone to count out ten Christmas Cards and envelopes and shrink-wrap them as a unit. It so happened there were four different versions of the Christmas cards because their Point-of-Purchase display unit was designed to hold 10 packs each of four versions. So, besides counting and wrapping the cards, we also set up the cardboard P-O-P displays and filled them with product as well. Once the displays were filled, they were inserted into individual boxes and the boxes were stacked and wrapped on skids following the retailer's strict pallet structure rules.
When all was said and done, we had counted and wrapped 10 million Christmas Cards that year. Here again, the project was so successful that we were invited to handle it for two more years before the Walmart buyer was ready for a change of pace in their Christmas Card program. Our Kitting and Assembly staffs attention to detail and ability to deliver on-time and on-budget went a long way to securing this repeat business in the subsequent years. In fact, a number of retailers followed Walmarts lead and chose us to provide similar services for their Christmas Card programs even after Walmart retired theirs.
A Surgical Equipment manufacturer needed special skin testing kits assembled for use by their global sales force. The trick here was getting all of the different pieces that went into the kits in exactly the right spot in the testing kit. If something was switched during assembly, the testing kit would be worthless. We knew there was no room for error as these kits would be traveling near and far. They had to be perfectly formatted per the clients instructions. Our Kitting and Assembly staff developed strict quality-control procedures and checks that made it impossible for any of the items in the kit to be placed anywhere but where they were supposed to be. Thus far, this project has been error-free according to the client.
These are just a few of the examples of the kinds of Kitting and Assembly work we have done for our clients. As you can see, we don't have any self-imposed limits on what comprises a Kitting or Assembly project we might handle. Our Kitting and Assembly staff believe they have the knowledge, skill, fortitude, and flexibility to tackle just about any project that comes their way. Perhaps now would be a good time to consider having MLS Mailing's Fulfillment team handle your next Kitting or Assembly project. Your project will be in good hands and good company.
